Eben Floyd Rogers IV
Dear Friends,
On December 22nd, Vanessa Garrett lost her 21-year-old son, Eben Floyd Rogers IV. This loss feels unfathomable, and we share this news with you because all heavy burdens are made lighter when a community helps hold the weight.
We invite you to a memorial service for Eben, which will be held at First Presbyterian Church (1328 Peachtree St NE, Atlanta, GA 30309) on February 15th, 2025, at 11 a.m. The service will be followed by a reception.
Motherhood Beyond Bars and The United Way of Atlanta have established an employee assistance fund at MBB to cover expenses. Eben was very active in the United Way African-American Partnership Program (you can see him in a short film on the AAP page). Additionally, there is a GoFundMe set up by Eben’s friends and family to help offset any financial hardships for the family. The outpouring of generosity serves as a reminder that Eben was deeply loved by a wide community and that Vanessa and her family are surrounded by love in this time of grief.
We know that Eben’s loss sends ripple effects across our community and that many will want to support Vanessa and her family now and in the future. While we cannot ease their pain, we will continue to show up in love and share ideas for ways to help carry the weight.
